I forgot to mention, roughly a month ago we noticed some water on the carpet. I thought I may have spilled some water, didn't think much of it and cleaned it up. Except it was even worse the next morning.

Turns out we had a leak in one of the pipes that runs in the slab of the house, which had to be fixed. During the process of finding the actual leak, the plumber knocked a few holes in our walls.

A month later, they're still here. Arg.

Since my wife's moved down we've done a lot of new recipes.

Here's a quick list of what we've tried:

    - Baked Salmon
    - Stir Fry (was a disaster)
    - Mexican Lasagna
    - Enchiladas
    - Ratatouille (and the leftovers were made into Ratatouille pizza!)
    - Bowtie pasta with Vodka Pesto Sauce

    Pretty awesome stuff

So things are going great. We're slowly becoming Texans, including our own hassles with auto registration-- we haven't even gotten to enjoy the DMV yet.

    - In laws have visited...
    - I'm doing more python scripting these days. It's fun. Ruby too.
    - Geeking out has been done
    - Lots of good food has been eaten, including random stuff we've cooked on our own

Now, to enjoy the rest of my Sunday and catch up on some sun...

The wife is out here and our stuff is here, now beginning the ordeal of making this house a home. We've got about a billion boxes in the garage right now and we've made a dent in what needs to be unpacked... but there's still work to do!

Everything else is going really well except that it hasn't been sunny all week and isn't supposed to be until next week. Bleh! I thought we were in the desert....

So week 4 I got to work from home. How awesome is that? I got to spend time with my wife and our families for Thanksgiving.

Week 5 has been interesting. The thermostat had to be replaced, the garage door had to be rekeyed, and I got us a couch and a loveseat. Week 6 will be my last week without my wife in Texas- she's graduating Saturday and then we're making an epic drive. The movers will be in Monday or Tuesday and we'll begin unloading...

That's all I've got for now except that Nikki Sixx has his own radio show and is a DJ on a radio station out here. I've been listening to it constantly.

The week's over and I'm still picking up little bits of knowledge every day. It's been a real adjustment - going from vendor designed and implemented systems to a home grown product. I'm excited to see where OpenStack takes the industry in the next few years- IaaS will no longer be for those who can afford it.

Adjustments that I've had to make thus far, aside from the whole being-alone-and-sleeping-on-an-air-mattress-thing:
    • Working with younger people in general
    • Working with people who were born and raised on Linux
    • Working on a Mac
    • No more Kroger. H-E-B is the grocery store chain around here
    • Working in a large corporate environment
Now, to start the Hunger Games at last...

BexarMet we hardly knew ye. Looks like our water district for 2.5 weeks will be gone by February.  Work is keeping me intrigued and busy at the same time- so that's very good.

Earlier tonight, I finished the Harry Potter books. Finally! Now onto The Hunger Games!

It's hard being away from the ones that I love but we're going to be together soon- and just a little longer we'll be on a new adventure in TX all together. The hope of that is all I need!

    Week 1:

I'm really digging the new gig. I think there's a ton of information to learn and I'll be a good fit.

I'm also really enjoying TX. The weather is great- people mostly keep to themselves, but they're friendly if you need anything.  I miss my wife lots but we'll be together soon and I know she'll like it here.

Oh: I'm a Mac user now. Finally!
